Reveian Ideologies
Reveian Ideologies describes the mainstream lines of thought present within the Reveian Realm. Ideology impacts many aspects of people's daily lives and shapes the political environment in which Reveians perform. Many characters are not ideological at all, and don't fit comfortably in any category, but may agree with an issue or two being displayed. This is even true for the nobility, who often share a few values from multiple ideologies rather than conform to one at core. However, these ideologies are commonly known terms within the Realm and it's just easier for someone to say "I have Republican views on this" or "I'm with the Bulwarkists when it comes to this". As the Realm is ruled by a monarch, it should be noted that while many ideologies believe the monarch should play a limited role in governance, they do not always outright believe the monarchy should be dissolved. Wanting to dissolve the monarchy would be considered treasonous and would likely see a character harshly punished.
Populism
Populism can take place in many forms, with some advocates arguing for moderate measures like introducing representative town councils under a noble ruler while more extreme voices wish to see forms of direct democracy or anarchism replace the feudal status quo. Surprisingly enough, populists have not always emerged from the commonfolk alone, but has also come from the black sheep nobility wanting to challenge their more established rivals.
Republicanism
Republicans are Reveians who wish to see representative institutions supplant hereditary rulership in the broadest sense. Unlike populists, republicans are often less focused on giving everyone equality and the right to self-autonomy, but do at least want this secured for a certain class of the commonfolk, this usually being the burgher class of merchants, bankers, artisans, and craftsmen. Republicans believe direct democracy to be ineffective and easily corruptible, instead desiring for representative measures either via election or contribution to society, which is where burghers play a crucial role as patrician families in urban environments.
Another core element of republican ideology is their view on markets. Republicans overwhelmingly favor free markets where the nobility and government are to keep their hands off, allowing commerce to flourish undisrupted. This is not to say there isn't a pragmatic wing of republicans which believe too open markets can be detrimental to society and some form of mercantilism must be maintained, but if they advocate for this it's usually so the experts on commerce, burghers, can be the ones to set the limits.
